Devlog #11 - Polish Sprint - Week 02
Hi everyone,
We are thrilled to announce that our game is complete! After a week of intensive polishing, we are excited to share the final product with all of you. The week kicked off with a series of meetings. Initially, we gathered downstairs for a brief introduction on how the final presentation should be presented. Later, we moved upstairs to discuss our concerns regarding the remaining polishing tasks. Once the meetings concluded, we delved into our work. Additionally, we had a short session with our group supervisors.
Build progress
Our programmers have made significant additions to the game. One exciting enhancement that we have added facial expressions on the player icons in the corners. These expressions dynamically change based on the game events. We also refined the health UI display by representing empty hearts as broken.
To enhance aiming, we introduced a coloured circle beneath each player, indicating their colour and looking direction. Moreover, we synchronized movement speed with the item being held, creating a more immersive experience.
Another noteworthy UI change is the transition from a 2D texture to 3D meshes for the initial countdown, ensuring greater consistency in our art.
Additionally, we improved weapon delivery by adding flapping sounds for the birds and a sound effect when the crate lands on the ground. Furthermore, we implemented cool sounds for opening/closing doors in the player join menu and for when a player leaves.
The camera movement received a great update, enabling it to track the center of action and zoom in on players based on the distance between each other. However, after careful consideration, the team decided to disable this option.
Art progress
Our talented artists have also been hard at work. Let's delve into the VFX improvements:
- As mentioned earlier, there are now VFX indicating the player's direction.
- We added a VFX for dashing, making it even more fun to use.
- The falling leaves now have their unique VFX.
We made adjustments to the level's colour scheme, changing the saturation to make it easier for players to spot their characters. Furthermore, we modified the object highlights, toning down their brightness to create a more balanced visual experience.
Lastly, we incorporated moving elements in the background, many of which required animations. For instance, we introduced moving rabbits and bees buzzing around a beehive.
We would like to thank you for following our development process and we hope you will enjoy the finished game. You can download the game's zip file and enjoy it with your friends for free!
