Devlog #08 - Production Sprint 02 - Week 02


Hello fellow egg enthusiasts,

We're over half way of the second sprint and we have a lot of fun stuff to show you guys in this devlog! First of all, we had our usual feedback session with our supervisors. They advised us to now focus mainly on adding some more player feedback features, which is why we finally implemented lots of animations, particles and sounds in our game!

Build progress:

The programmers have been quite busy with adding more player feedback using particles and animations.

The HUD also got a new update to include player icons, this way the players will get a nice icon of their player next to their healthbar and score!

Art progress:

The artists have made tons of animations for things such as grabbing, throwing, pushing, different poses for holding the weapons, spinning and much more. We've also finally created the 'Corn Grenade Launcher' weapon which mechanics have already been revealed in the last devlog! We've also made some improvements on how to display the player score and timer by creating some more meshes such as a cracked egg and numbers that have the same toon shader to make everything fit together.

Moreover we started working on the screen where players would get ready before the gameplay would officially begin. We wanted to immerse the players even before the level starts, so while waiting for their competition, players can still move around and get a feel for their character. For this, we worked on a Player Join screen that was inspired by a chicken coop and Fall Guys. This is still work in progress though so make sure to check on further progress next week!

VFX progress:

We created two new particle systems: one for the player that is in the lead and one for the player that is in last place.  These effects will be shown while playing the game and changes owner according to the players' scores. The winner will have a sparkling crown rotating above its head. The losing player will be a rotten egg, with bad odor fumes and flies around it.
