Devlog #04 - Production Sprint 01 - Week 01


Hi everyone,

We finally started the production phase and entered the 1st sprint! First we had a meeting with our supervisors. They played our build and gave us feedback on our documents and other tasks. During the group meeting we were busy planning our tasks for the sprint and dividing them between each group member. While the artists will be busy with the concepting and modeling, the programmers will be busy with implementing the main mechanics of the game and insuring the overall flow of the gameplay is good.


Build progress:

We fully reimplemented the movement and it now works completely different than the prototype! The players will spawn at random positions in the arena and will not be able to move until there are enough (2-4) players in the game. Items will also randomly spawn in the arena with a maximum amount of items available at once. These will spawn at random times.

Once there are enough players, the timer will start and you'll be able to move around until the timer runs out. the players have a health bar and can take damage. When the bar is empty, the player dies and will respawn in a random location in the arena.



Art progress:

  1. The Main Character

We started creating concepts of the Egg. We tried out different ways of how to differentiate the players from each other such as giving the players their assigned color to various accessories. After we asked around for feedback, we made some iterations on our favorite designs and  created the final design.


      2. The Foot (The hazard)

The foot is an environmental hazard. It falls down into the arena, instantly killing players if they're underneath it and losing a point.

We made some quick foot sketches to get the style right. Then we created some iterations on the trousers. Tried various colors and after some feedback we came up with the final design.


      3. The Level Design

We started with thinking of basic shapes for the arena. Then we came up with ways to make the basic shapes more interesting and fun to play in. We kept in mind that the arena should fill up enough space of the UI, without the HUD covering up parts of the playfield. The bone-shaped arena had our preference, so we created a photobash of it and then improved it with some environmental elements like grass, flowers and chickens. Our next step will be creating a blockout of the arena. We have the idea of replacing the two chicken coops at sides and adding one chicken coop at the top of the arena instead. The chicken coop will have a wooden board on it where the timer could be displayed on.


   4. Weapons

For the project, one of our goal is to have at least one short and long-ranged weapons and if time allows more down the line. Thus, we needed to brainstorm on every possible idea we had for both types of weapons while keeping them thematic, fun and silly.
