Devlog #02 - Prototyping Phase!

Hi everyone!

This week, our game development team has been hard at work on creating prototypes for our game. We started the week with a meeting to discuss the progress we made during the previous week and to plan our next steps. During this meeting, we shared our research findings and brainstormed ideas for the prototypes we would create.

After some discussion, we decided to focus on the main mechanics of the game. We began implementing some early prototypes, experimenting with different ways to make the game engaging and enjoyable for players. One idea we had was to use the right thumb stick on the game controller to make the character rotate and punch other players.

While our programmers were working on implementing the mechanics and damage/score system, the rest of the team was busy creating documentation. By creating this documentation, we were able to keep everyone on the same page and ensure that everyone was working towards the same goals. In addition to working on the prototypes, our artists were busy creating an art bible. The art bible serves as a reference guide for the visual style of the game. It includes concept art, character designs, and environment designs.

Before the weekend, we held a second meeting. We used this meeting to prepare a list of questions that we posted on HackNPlan. Some of the key questions we addressed were: how to implement short-ranged and long-ranged weapons, how to make the HUD easy to read, and what needed to be done to for our documentation.

Over the weekend, everyone on the team worked hard to make progress on their prototypes. We experimented with a few different ideas, including bouncy bullets that can ricochet and kill the shooter, as well as a spiky block that players can push each other onto to bounce off and die.

At the end of the week, we met once again, shared our results and brainstormed new ideas to add into the game. We also worked on the game design model. Overall, it was a productive and exciting week for our game development team, and we're looking forward to continuing to make progress on our  project in the weeks to come.
